Signs You Should Probably Start Looking For a New House:
The first & most obvious sign that you should sell is that your family is outgrowing your home. The kids are growing up, buying more clothes, collecting more hobbies, eating more food - but you don't have room for all these additions? Instead of restricting your family in a time of growth, you should first look into finding a place that meets everyone's needs. The kids will be able to explore their passions & you will have peace of mind knowing there is a place for every box of noodles in the kitchen.
The next sign is the other side of the one stated above: empty nesters. So you bought the big house with a bathroom for every kid, now they're off creating their own life & all you're left with is a big, empty, beautiful home. While it may be hard to let go of the house that gave you so many great memories, it may be the best financial decision to downsize.
Experts say that if your lifestyle is significantly different from when you bought your house, it might be time to look into other options. For example, a lot of people are working from home now, but how many people actually have an office to work from? Studies show that having an actual office in your house makes for a more productive workday, & it is important to be able to separate your work life from your personal life - so you don't want to just be working from your bedroom or kitchen table all day.
Another great reason to sell is the demand of inventory in the market right now. In our article, 2021: What to Expect in Real Estate, we explained the increased demand to buy due to the lack of houses for sale. Knowing this, you can have some confidence that your house won't be on the market for long. However, it is important to have a plan before you sell & end up being homeless because you couldn't find the house you wanted! Remember, inventory is low, so it is important to do your research before you start the selling process.
